If you’ve filed a consumer proposal and you are struggling with your payments you should contact the trustee as soon as possible. Provided that your consumer proposal is in good standing you will have a couple of options. If you have experienced a material change in your financial situation it may be possible to amend the terms of your consumer proposal to make the payments more affordable. Or you may need to reassess your options. It’s possible that making a consumer proposal made sense at the time of filing, but things change. If your consumer proposal is not making your situation better and you are struggling to make the payments you may need to consider filing personal bankruptcy. Filing a consumer proposal does not prevent you from subsequently filing personal bankruptcy.
